FDA Approves Treatment Vaccine For Human Clinical Trials
On March 30, 2010 the FDA approved for human clinical trials the first vaccine to potentially treat HIV. This vaccine, developed at Emory University, was used by CPFA supported scientist Rama Amara in pre clinical trials as part of a multi-year seed money grant given by CPFA. Based on the preliminary data from our seed money grant Dr. Amara and his team received a multi-million dollar NIH grant. This has allowed them to begin a phase 1 human clinical trial to use a safe vaccine to treat HIV infected individuals. This treatment vaccine may either decrease the need for or even eliminate the need for complex and potentially toxic anti-HIV medications. CPFA has been recognized by Dr. Amara as being a crucial partner in the research that has led to this internationally recognized and potentially ground breaking treatment vaccine.
